How to use Number Representation Cards:
PREP: Print, (optional) laminate for durability, and cut out.
There are SIX different representations of each number included in this file. You can use all or a selection of the following: numeral, number word, 10-frame, 1:1 image counting, tally, and die representations. Numbers 1 through 20 are included so you also may choose to have your child work only with a selection of those numbers. (E.g. when I first did this activity with my 3.5-year-old, I selected just numbers 1 through 10 and only the numeral cards and 1:1 image counting cards)
To Play: Lay out your selection of cards. Either you or the child will select one representation to use as a guide throughout the sorting activity: I usually select the numeral cards and lay them out in a line. From there, the child can select any card (such as the picture representation of “5” showing 5 butterflies) and sort it accordingly (i.e. match it will the numeral card showing “5”). Continue until all cards have been sorted.
